What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a specialized cognitive behavioral treatment developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., originally designed to treat suicidal and chronic self-injurious behaviors. DBT is now being used for a number of specialized populations, specifically disorders of emotion dysregulation.

The treatment is designed to help clients identify and understand triggers for their behaviors as well as learn and implement new skills to help regulate emotions, tolerate distress and be more effective interpersonally.

DBT is currently

  • Binge eating
  • Bulimia Nervosa
  • Panic Disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Hoarding
  • Substance Abuse

Modes of Treatment:
  • Individual Psychotherapy
    Sessions (45-50 minutes
    weekly or bi-weekly)
  • Skills Training Groups
    (60 minutes weekly)
